After three years of trying who will ever forget the emotion, the excitement and the whole atmosphere of this year's race at Le Mans. Porsche returned to France confident of one more success from their aging but still potent 962Cs. The Sauber-Mercedes had already chalked up one success at the opening race in Spain and were going to represent a real challenge, while the myriad of private Porsches could never be discounted should the works cars stumble. Jaguar's victory was not a foregone conclusion.
