St. Jude Thaddeus is the apostle turned to when everything else has been tried, the patron of hope and of causes that look impossible. The image at his breast recalls the likeness of Christ that tradition says he carried with him. Around the figure the medal is lettered ST JUDE THADDEUS PRAY FOR ME, which is the whole of the devotion in five words: a personal appeal, worn close and repeated as often as it is needed. It makes a steadying thing to give someone in a hard season.
