Worth Buying — Genius Loci
Worth Buying · The curated shopfront
Don't browse
the catalog.
Shop the winners.
This is the shopfront for The Index — and only for The Index. Nothing appears here because it exists, because a supplier listed it, or because the margin is good. A product earns a place on this shelf by clearing every Index gate, with its score shown next to it. Everything else stays in the catalog, unlisted.
Where this stands today: The Index scoring is built and being calibrated in shadow — checked by hand before anything is published. No winners have been listed yet, so this shelf lists nothing yet. No product, score, or entry is claimed on this page until one actually clears the bar. New here? Begin at Start.
A catalog shows you everything. This shelf shows you what's left.
The wider Genius Loci catalog runs to tens of thousands of products. That breadth is raw material — it is not a recommendation. Worth Buying is the other end of the funnel: the small fraction that survives, presented as a short shelf you can actually finish reading.
Tens of thousandsListed because they can be sourced
Every sourced product, in every category. Useful as a warehouse. Hard work as a shopping trip — the sorting is left to you.
- Entry rule: available to source
- What listing means: nothing about quality
- Your job: compare, guess, hope
Only winnersListed because they earned it
Only products that cleared The Index — demand, price, quality, competition, and value, all of them — each with a full package and its score in the open.
- Entry rule: pass every gate — a fail anywhere drops it
- What listing means: scored, written up, checkable
- Your job: read the case, then decide
Browse by score band. Today, every band is empty.
When entries publish, this is how the shelf will be browsed — by the band a winner earned, not by category sprawl. Try the filters: they work, and right now they all return the same honest answer, because calibration has to finish before the first winner can be named.

ENTRIES
YET
No winners listed — in any band.
The Index is still calibrating in shadow: scoring runs against real catalog products without publishing anything, while hand spot-checks verify the scores land where careful human judgement would put them. Until that holds up, naming a winner here would be a claim this page hasn't earned the right to make.
When the first entries clear, they will appear on this shelf first as full packages — score, reasoning, comparisons, and the case for and against — and be announced as Index Drops through The Proof. There is no drop date to promise yet, and this page won't invent one.
No entry without its working shown.
A score you can't inspect is just marketing. So every winner on this shelf carries the same six-part package. Pick a part to see what it will contain — this is the format, published before the first entry, so the standard can't quietly move later.
The score — a summary, not a substitute
Each entry leads with its Index Score, 0–100, and the band it earned — 70+, 85+, or 95+. The score summarises the six checkable signals behind it; it never replaces them, and the entry shows the version of the scoring in force when the score was earned.
Honest limit: the bands are still being calibrated, so no score is shown next to any product yet — on this page or on The Index.
Four steps, once the shelf has something on it.
This is the intended way through the shopfront, written down now so the experience is a promise the page can be held to — not a feature claimed as live today.
-
Step 1 · Read
Start with the score and the band
The score tells you how strongly a winner cleared the bar — a 95+ is a rarer claim than a 70+. The full method behind the number is published on The Index and explained as a system on The Loci System.
-
Step 2 · Check
Read the case for — and the case against
Every entry argues both sides, including the better-known alternative that nearly beat it. The detailed teardowns behind that instinct live on The Breakdown and The Stack, where the Scorecard goes out.
-
Step 3 · Decide
Buy through the entry, or don't buy at all
The entry is the buying door — not a category page, not a search through thousands of listings. If the case against wins your reading, the honest outcome is no sale, and the shelf accepts that. Early picks in that spirit are shelved today on The Select, without the full scoring package.
-
Step 4 · Feedback
What happens after feeds back in
Sales, traffic, search, and returns data flow back into scoring. A listed product that later fails a check comes off this shelf — with the change visible, not buried. New arrivals are announced through The Proof.
Three bands. One honest caveat.
Index Scores run 0–100. These are the working bands while the system is calibrated against hand-checked spot checks of real products — so the numbers mean something before they are ever shown next to a product on this shelf.
Clears the basic bar — real demand, defensible price, no quality red flags.
Beats the obvious alternatives on the signals that matter, not just one of them.
The rare tier the full package is reserved for. Expect very few products here.
The caveat: these bands are in calibration, not set in stone. If the spot checks show a band is too easy or too strict, the band moves — and each entry, when entries publish, will show the score it earned under the version in force at the time. The six signals behind every score are published on The Index.
What Worth Buying won't do.
A curated shopfront is only worth trusting if its refusals are as public as its picks. These are inherited directly from The Index — this shelf adds no exceptions of its own.
-
—No pay-to-listA product can't buy its way onto this shelf, and placement isn't for sale. The score is the only door.
-
—No padding the shelfIf only three products clear the bar, this page lists three. Empty places stay visibly empty rather than being filled with near-misses.
-
—No catalog creepCategories, bestseller rails, and “more like this” sprawl belong to the catalog. This page stays a short shelf, on purpose.
-
—Losers get dropped, not buriedProducts that fail a check are removed from contention. If one was previously listed and later fails, it comes off — with the change visible.
-
—No score without the workingEvery entry shows its reasoning, comparisons, and the case against. A bare number next to a buy button is exactly what this page refuses to be.
-
—Nothing claimed before it's deliveredNo winners, scores, prices, or drop dates appear here before they exist. Where something isn't settled, the shelf says so — as it does today.
The closest doors that are open today.
The franchises that feed this shelf are live. These are the three to use while calibration finishes — each one is honest about being a step on the way here, not a substitute for a scored winner.
